Pittsburgh classic

The story

S&D Polish Deli opened in the Strip District in late 2007, started by the Pyszkowski family, who had just come to Pittsburgh from Poland. In 2008, Agnieszka Sornek, a piano student at Duquesne, joined the small staff.

The part time job turned into a calling. The Pyszkowskis sold the deli to Matt and Gretchen McDaniel in 2016, and since January 2017 Agnieszka has managed it, stocking the shelves with the foods of home.

Come for the pierogi and kielbasa. Stay because, as Agnieszka puts it, the deli is about giving people a connection to their memories, the tastes of a grandmother's kitchen or a childhood in Poland.
