Pittsburgh classic

The story

John "J.P." Prestogeorge founded the business in 1958 as the Olde Fashioned Coffee Shoppe at Miracle Mile in Monroeville, and in 1965 he and his wife Christine opened a shop at Greengate Mall. In 1981 their son Stan, just out of college, opened a store in the Strip District.

In 2004 Stan bought the building across the street and focused the business on what he loved most, coffee and tea.

The beans are still roasted on a Jabez Burns roaster that's about 100 years old, anywhere from 500 to more than 1,000 pounds a day, so the Strip smells like fresh coffee before you even reach the door. Stan's son A.J. is the third generation behind the counter.
