Pittsburgh classic

The story

Marc and Susan Serrao started Oakmont Bakery in 1988 with 1,200 square feet, two kids and a big dream. It was the only full service retail bakery in town, and the town kept coming back.

The bakery grew and grew until it moved into its own building at One Sweet Street, which now covers more than 12,500 square feet and makes it one of the largest retail bakeries in the country. Modern Baking magazine named it Retail Bakery of the Year in 2010, and Pittsburgh Magazine and City Paper readers keep voting it the best bakery and the best donuts around.

It's still a family business. Marc and Susan work side by side with their kids, and the family has already welcomed a third generation of Serraos.
