The story
The Wholey family has been in the food business since 1912, when the Robert Wholey Company got its start in McKees Rocks, and Wholey's grew into one of the best known names in the Strip District.
Luke learned to fillet a fish at four or five, standing on a milk crate. He worked as a fishing guide in Alaska, cooking shore lunches for his groups, then came home and sold grilled salmon plates outside the family market. "It's in my blood," he says. "I eat fish every day."
On July 27, 2012, at 28, he opened his own restaurant a few blocks down Penn Avenue. Wild Alaskan salmon is the heart of the menu, just like on those shore lunches.
