Pittsburgh classic
The story
The Grand Concourse lives in the old Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad station, built in 1901 with a stained glass ceiling, brass, mahogany and marble. The building went on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.
Restaurateur Chuck Muer saw a dining room in that grand old concourse, and the restaurant opened in 1978 as part of the Station Square revival across the river from Downtown. The bar is the Gandy Dancer Saloon, named for the railroad crews who laid and kept up the track.
It has been a seafood and Sunday brunch tradition ever since, a place Pittsburgh families save for the big occasions, with the Monongahela and the city skyline right outside the windows.
