Pittsburgh classic
The story
Gab & Eat has been feeding the neighborhood on Washington Avenue for more than 40 years, and the walls tell the story. It started with celebrities signing them, Michael Keaton among them, and over the years customers added their names too, until there's barely a bare spot left.
Coffee comes in mismatched mugs, some of them brought in by regulars. The sandwich to know is the Hey Ray, topped with home fries and coleslaw the Pittsburgh way.
It's a breakfast and lunch place in the truest sense, with big plates, a busy grill and a crowd of regulars. Bring cash, because it's cash only, and you'll fit right in.
