The story
Andy Hardie and Dave Tuttle started scooping homemade ice cream on Atwood Street in Oakland, and in 1990 Dave sold his share to Andy. For some 40 years Andy kept it going, never advertising, just letting word of mouth and fresh waffle cones do the work.
When Andy retired in April 2024 and the shop closed, Oakland took it hard. Then the Kasten family, Jason, Laura and Sarah, stepped in. They were family friends, and Jason and Laura had their first date at Dave & Andy's.
They reopened on September 7, 2024 with the same recipes and the same flavors, and former employees came back to show them how it was done. One cone and you'll see why people were so happy to have it back.
