Pittsburgh classic

The story

Chinatown Inn is the last piece of Pittsburgh's old Chinatown. Tong Yee came from Taishan, in Guangdong, and the family business began as Quong Ye Tang, a grocery in a building Chinese immigrants put up in 1933. The restaurant was founded in 1943.

When Soo Lim Yee came home from World War II, where he drove trucks for the Army, he took the helm. By the late 1950s it was fully a restaurant, and it stayed put even as the Boulevard of the Allies cut through and the old neighborhood disappeared around it. His stepson Jonathan took over in 1988 and runs it with Wei.

Get the jumbo egg rolls, and know that the meat is never frozen. In 2022 a state historical marker went up to honor the old Chinatown.
